The role of 4PL outsourcing in supply chain efficiency
Abstract
The terminology in the field of 4PL-outsourcing and the list of services of system logistics integrators (4PL-providers) are considered. The dynamics of the world market of 4PL service and the leaders of the world market of 4PL providers for the middle of 2022 are given. An example of the implementation of the functionality of a 4PL service by Kuehne + Nagel is considered. It is shown that most of the research in this area of supply chain management is focused on the conceptualization of the concept and differentiation of 4PL from 3PL providers. An analysis was made of the possibility of using 4PL-level outsourcing in terms of increasing the flexibility/dynamics of the supply chain (Supply Chain Agility - SCA). It is shown that the concept of SCA at the strategic level means the use of knowledge about the market and modern digital SC technologies to optimize the functioning of the supply chain in unstable environmental conditions. The influence of 4PL outsourcing on the effectiveness of the supply chain is considered.
